July 12, 2026: the Most Menders in one place ever

World's Biggest Mendathon... ON A BOAT

Hekima Hapa and I wanted to make a statement about masses of menders, so we joined forces. We thought that gathering the maximum number of people in one place for a mending party will make noise. Then, when Central Park told me there can be no needles or scissors on that hallowed ground, but why not try Hudson River Park, I thought, hm, Pier 40: why not a cruise? So we chartered the Manhattan II with room for 400 on board. Do not miss this boat! Sunday July 12, 5-7.30pm. TICKETS HERE

Hekima is my Darn It! Club cohost, with the artist Martina Cox. In 2013, she founded Black Girls Sew, a nonprofit centering education in design and entrepreneurship, and she still runs Harriet’s, her 24-year-old independent fashion brand inspired by Africa and the people of its diaspora. And she's an artist. And she has four kids. And published her book, linked below in 2022. I know, such an underachiever. Here we are at Darn It! with Martina in the middle. Darn It! is three years old now!
