The Ministry of Mending

The ministry of mending takes mendspiration from places and people in authority, but is not governmental or religious. It is all about helping, healing, giving, and solace. A ministry is an administrative department or the lending of care and support: this is both!

I, Kate Sekules, work for mending

I do whatever I can in the service of the most ancient everyday humble technology. Mending has always kept the world together without much attention or thanks. Let us now spread the mend! Consider this:

Until about 1760 every textile, every garment was made by hand of natural fibers.

This represents over 6,000 generations

All of industrial textile production represents 10 generations

Join the Ministry!

How? Start mending.  Find, join or start a group--it's fun in a circle. This is ours, please come along, first Sunday of the month in Brooklyn. I am nearly done with my PhD A History and Theory of Mending  and will be getting out more to continue various projects, like this prototype world map of mending.

And the World's Biggest Mendathon... ON A BOAT

A Prayer for Mending

Earth Mother

Who art everyone

Hallowed be thy name

(however you hallow)

Thy queendom come

Thy mends be done

In here and probably heaven

Give us this day our daily mend

And forgive us our impulse buys

As we forgive those who dress at Uniqlo

Lead us more toward preservation

And deliver us from capitalists

For thine is the queendom

The humility and the glory

Forever and ever

 Ah-mend
